BENEFICIARIES
This year's climb will be used to remember those who we lost in the line of duty during 9/11/01. However, it is anticipated that with the right sponsors and a sold out climb, we will have funding left over.
Any funds raised through the event will be distributed three (3) ways listed below. In addition, our climb is also recognized as a 501(c) 3 through our parent organization the Association for Memorial Stair Climbs but we are recognized in NYS as a DBA through this parent organization. Neither the CNY Board of Directors or the AMSC have any paid staff and both operate on a volunteer basis receiving no compensation for services. The control of the funds distribution, beneficiary selection and operational items are controlled by the local board of directors with oversight by the Association to protect the integrity and maintain the true purpose of the climb.
All proceeds from ticket sales, donations, sponsorships or merchandise sales is used for three (3) reasons:
1) Operational expenses of the climb to include dues to the association (which provides our insurance, financial accountability, tax reporting, web design, email support, logistical/operational assistance and policies to name a few). In addition, expenses such as climber tokens (varies year to year but typically include t-shirts, helmet sticker, challenge coin, id tag of the fallen first responder they climbed for and entrance to the brotherhood bash) and t-shirts for the volunteers are also paid for through this process. It also allows for research and inspections of other similar style climbs to help better our event. Included in this is also any marketing, registration needs and distribution of material. There is a small fee added to the ticket sales that is incurred by the registration company. This pays for the site maintenance, credit card processing fees and documentation of the funds received/transferred to the climb account. Neither the CNY BOD or the AMSC receives this registration 'fee' (typically around $3.00-$4.00 depending on the ticket price)
2) provide a 'start up' fund for the following years climb. This allows us to begin the marketing, distribution of registration information, attendance to trade shows to inform attendees and purchase items to improve the climb. This is extremely important so items can be started well before the registration opens (Typically June1st). This typically is estimated between $2000 - $5000.
3) Lastly, any funds left are donated to a recognized 501(c) 3 organization that is related in some way to helping first responders. Each year, the number of beneficiaries and amount of donation to each charity may change, however all beneficiaries will be announced prior to the opening registration (again, typically June1st). In
The description of these beneficiaries are located below:
Each year, the Board of directors selects the beneficiaries for the following year so sponsors and registrants know what organizations we are looking to donate proceeds to well before climb day. Typically, this is announced sometime at the beginning of the year. Below is information on beneficiaries we have selected or have provided funding to.
Any questions please contact us.

Additionally, we have begun to donate to this group through the Unity Tour Bike Ride. This gives support to them which in turn raises awareness for line of duty deaths and COPS (concerns of police survivors). This funding is sent to: Law Enforcement United, Inc. - PA Division who in turn donates back to the NLEOMF.

At times we receive donation to assist in making the event even better. These donation are taken in the form of a donation to our parent organization, the Association of Memorial Stair Climbs. This aids us in continuing the legacy of stepping up to honor the fallen and help create/establish/support more climbs like ours around the country. This is also a 501(c)3 organization and you can find more on them here: http://www.memorialstairclimbs.com/
